Dandelion: The healing wild plant

The dandelion is certainly one of the largest and most important medicinal plants in our habitat - it is a so-called polychrest, a many-use plant. Its various folk names already indicate a little about its effects. Some call it bedstraw and piss carnation, because it has a diuretic effect. Others call it milk stick, because it contains a whitish milk in its stem. Why the dandelion is used in naturopathy mainly as a liver-kidney remedy and what positive properties it also has, you will learn in the following article.

What is dandelion?

For many, the dandelion is a weed, but in natural medicine it is a valued remedy for various ailments. The herb, which is widespread in Central Europe, is very hardy and can adapt to a wide range of growing conditions. After flowering, the flowers of Taraxacum turn into brown seeds with stalks and umbrellas. The fruits are now carried away by the wind and spread over long distances. Due to the umbrellas, the seeds do not simply fall to the ground, but are dispersed up to several hundred meters. This is where the well-known name "dandelion" comes from.

The dandelion is considered a liver-kidney remedy of the first order. It drives the urine, stimulates the kidney to excretion and thus promotes the detoxification of the body. It is therefore important to always drink enough during a dandelion cure! Water of course. Due to this diuretic and draining effect, the dandelion is also said to have a good effect on the lymph of your body. It decongests, drains and clears. Fields of application in naturopathy

[Taraxacum officinale]

Taraxacum is one of the medicinal plants with a very wide range of applications. The focus here is on stimulating the detoxification and elimination mechanisms of various organs. Bringing the organs into balance in turn has a positive effect on other complaints and sensitivities.

Dandelion for liver and gall bladder

It stimulates the production of bile in the liver and thus promotes digestion. It also stimulates the metabolism of fats and helps to reduce fatty liver. It is also used for liver cleansing due to its detoxifying properties.

Dandelion as a cleansing cure

The diuretic and detoxifying effect of Taraxacum makes it an ideal companion for cleansing cures. Taraxacum is especially recommended for relieving water retention or the effects of alcohol. In addition, dandelion acts on many organs involved in detoxification and elimination, such as the liver.

Dandelion for digestive problems

The general positive influence of dandelion on all organs involved in digestion is due to its digestion-strengthening and bile-promoting properties. Especially during fatty feasts, a cup of dandelion tea or dandelion brandy are highly recommended.

Dandelion for metabolic activities

Helps to revive a sluggish metabolism and promotes the defense system. By activating and supporting various organs, the metabolism gets going, dissolves anchored toxins and purifies the blood. Thus, dandelion can also support weight loss.

Dandelion for acne

Increases connective tissue circulation and stimulates metabolic activity. Acne usually has causes related to our digestive organs. The digestive strengthening effect provides balance here and thus dandelion helps acne symptoms from the inside out.

Notes on the use of dandelion

As always, it should not be taken continuously. However, multiple cures per year with dandelion tinctures or tea mixtures are highly recommended. One usually takes the preparations 3 times a day before meals. A good tea mixture containing dandelion is, for example, the liver-bile tea from the company Salus. You can buy the tea in most organic supermarkets.

At ZIMPLY NATURAL, we use dandelion as a kidney & liver remedy to address any pre-existing conditions, or to support appropriate organ activity.

Dandelion and allergies

Those who are allergic to daisies, as the dandelion is, should talk to a doctor or therapist before taking it and, if necessary, refrain from taking it.

Dandelion in pregnancy and lactation

Dandelion can be used during pregnancy and lactation.

Dandelion and biliousness

If you suffer from gallbladder inflammation, gallstones or a bile duct or intestinal obstruction, you should seek medical advice before taking dandelion.
