To reach a port, we must sail - sail, not anchor - sail, not drift.

Stand up for your goals

do not doubt, but make

It sounds banal, but you can't reach your goal if you don't structure them and work on them. Many goals remain thought constructs or reveries.

To prevent this, you need clarity and structure. It's a good start if you first set yourself the task of dealing with your goal every day. This will keep you focused and you won't lose sight of your goals so easily. The daily actions do not have to be huge milestones. It's all about continuity.

Create purposeful habits

Create habits that support you on the way to achieving your goals. This is strongly related to the focus and continuity of the previous point.

If you commit to your goal every day and also integrate success-enhancing habits into your daily routine, you are already well on your way to achieving your goal. For example, if your goal is to consume less sugar, make it a habit to drink only water at home. If you get into the habit of always having a carafe of water, lemon and mint in the fridge instead of soft drinks, it will be easier for you to continue to pursue your goal.

Prioritize your activities

It is important to consciously separate the urgent and the important. Often activities seem super important because they are urgent. But urgent doesn't mean important, so it's important to distinguish between the two. We often get bogged down in working off a thousand tasks that seem important and urgent at the moment, but don't get us anywhere.

Eisenhower Matrix

The Eisenhower matrix represents this separation of concepts into four quadrants:

Long-term goals you set are often in the 2nd quadrant because they are important, but not necessarily urgent. They rarely have a deadline or knock on your door in an intrusive way.

Try to assign your upcoming tasks of the day to the 4 quadrants. This way you can prevent your goals from being pushed into the background by unimportant time eaters.

Visualize your goals

For example, hang a picture of your goal on your refrigerator and keep it in front of your eyes every day. Alternatively, you can hang a note with a motivational saying on your mirror, or set your goal photo or a positive affirmation as a wallpaper on your smartphone.

Reflect on the degree of your goal achievement

Self-reflection is a big word and so is its significance. In fact, it is basically nothing more than consciously thinking about yourself. Make yourself aware of the point at which you are currently standing. The following questions can help you to structure your self-reflection, so that no thought carousel arises, which always turns around the same fixed point:

  • Why do I want to achieve this goal?
  • What should change as a result of achieving the goal?
  • What steps are still ahead of me on the way to achieving the goal?
  • What challenges do I still face along the way?
  • How can I counter these?

Asking yourself the right questions on a regular basis helps you stay on track. From the answers you can derive measures, what you could improve.

It's best to keep a written record of new insights. A notebook for all your thoughts, plans, ideas regarding your goal can help with reflection. It also shows you how far you have come so far. So if you get stuck, you can remind yourself how you started and how far you've come.

Conclusion

Commit to your goals and stay focused. Create goal-oriented habits in your everyday life that accompany you on the way to achieving your goals. Learn to distinguish what is urgent or important and don't let your goals be pushed aside by unimportant time eaters. A visualization of your goals can help you in everyday life to stay on the ball.

To achieve your goals, you definitely need patience and perseverance, but it's worth it to keep at it!
