The most important in a nutshell
Definition
The immune system includes whole organs and blood vessels, but also individual cells and proteins. In addition to the blood, the organs involved in the immune system include the skin, mucous membranes and lymph organs.
Function
The immune system is divided into specific and non-specific defenses. The non-specific defense is present from birth, while the specific defense develops in adolescence. The body's own defense stores the information of the pathogens at the first contact and can then react faster against the pathogens at renewed contact due to the stored information.
Task
The main tasks of the immune system are to render pathogens such as bacteria, viruses and fungi harmless and remove them from the body, to fight pathological cell changes such as cancer and to recognize and neutralize pollutants from the environment.
Prevention
To strengthen the immune system, one should pay attention to a balanced diet, exercise and sufficient sleep. However, nature also has some miracle weapons to offer - for a sustainable and long-term solution to strengthen the immune system Zimply Natural comes into play.

Definition: Immune system
The body's defense system
The immune system is a biological defense system of humans and prevents tissue damage caused by pathogens. It eliminates invading microorganisms and foreign substances and is also able to recognize and eliminate "broken" or "defective" endogenous cells. The immune system consists of specific and non-specific defenses. Without the immune system, humans would be defenceless against harmful influences.
Immune system facts
Did you know that...
... the liver and the immune system are best friends?
... the immune defense was discovered in 1883 by Ilya Ilyitic Metschnikov?
... the immune system is also called the body police?
... the immune system can also attack the body's own structures, resulting in autoimmune diseases?
Activation of the immune system
Once a pathogen has entered the body, the immune system reacts with two different defense systems. The non-specific defense system ("innate immunity") reacts more quickly, but is usually not effective enough because it often cannot distinguish between the different pathogens and is also only partially able to protect the body from the invaders. Components of the innate immune system are external barriers such as skin, mucous membranes, eye fluid, saliva, stomach acid, special signal substances and certain white blood cells.
In contrast, the specific defense can act specifically against certain pathogens and intervenes when the non-specific system is overwhelmed. The specific defense initially takes some time to fight the pathogen, but develops an immune memory, enabling it to act more quickly and effectively against the same pathogen the next time. The specific defense develops in the adolescent years and consists of the B and T lymphocytes.
Sequence of an immune reaction
- Foreign bodies penetrate (e.g. viruses, dust).
- The foreign bodies are recognized by their surface structure. In an initial reaction, "scavenger cells" (white blood cells) destroy the first foreign bodies.
- In case of unknown and numerous invaded foreign bodies, further white blood cells (T-helper cells) are activated by the "scavenger cells". Some pathogens can already be killed by aggressive substances.
- B lymphocytes (white blood cells) are stimulated by the T helper cells to produce specific antibodies for the invaded foreign body.
- The antibodies bind with the foreign bodies and render them harmless. Subsequently, "scavenger cells" destroy the rendered harmless foreign bodies.
- Antibodies and memory cells remain behind. In the event of a new infection, the reaction is now even faster and more efficient.
The difference between an immune system that is too strong and one that is too weak
The immune response can be both too strong and too weak. If one suffers from one of the two forms, this can lead to diseases. Too strong an immune response can lead to inflammation, destruction of the body's own tissue, or autoimmune diseases such as type 1 diabetes mellitus. Too weak an immune response, in turn, promotes infections and even the formation of tumors.
Strengthening the immune system
To counteract a weak immune system and the symptoms, even small measures such as stress reduction, a balanced diet (foods with antioxidants), spending time outdoors every day, exercise, drinking plenty of fluids and getting enough sleep can help.
